Chelsea et légende du football ivoirien, Didier Drogba a proposé à son hôpital ivoirien d'être utilisé comme centre de traitement des coronavirus.

L'hôpital, basé dans la ville d'Abidjan, a été inauguré en 2016 et porte le nom de l'ancien footballeur ivoirien Laurent Pokou, décédé la même année que l'hôpital.

Vincent Toh Bi Irie, le chef du conseil régional d'Abidjan, a félicité Drogba pour son «geste patriotique», affirmant que l'hôpital les aidera à lutter contre la maladie.

"Nous remercions Drogba pour ce cadeau considéré comme un acte de patriotisme", a déclaré Toh Bi.

En Côte d'Ivoire, il y a plus de 500 cas de coronavirus avec cinq décès enregistrés à ce jour, mais le pays se prépare à une énorme augmentation des cas suite aux affirmations selon lesquelles les pays africains courent un grave danger de devenir les plus touchés au monde.

Didier Drogba, qui a pris sa retraite du football en 2018, a joué pour Le Mans et Guingamp avant de rejoindre Marseille, où il a ensuite quitté pour Chelsea en 2004 pour un montant record de 24 millions de livres sterling.

Il a marqué 164 buts en 381 apparitions en deux périodes avec Chelsea, les aidant à remporter la Premier League quatre fois et la Ligue des champions en 2012, ainsi que quatre triomphes de la FA Cup et trois victoires en Coupe de la Ligue.

Drogba a également joué pour le club chinois de Shanghai Shenhua ainsi que pour Galatasaray en Turquie, la franchise de la Ligue majeure de football de l'Impact de Montréal et Phoenix Rising aux États-Unis.

Pour le pays, il a marqué 63 buts en 104 matchs pour la Côte d'Ivoire, évoluant en Coupe du monde 2006, 2010 et 2014.

Chelsea and Ivorian football legend, Didier Drogba has offered his hospital in Ivory Coast to be used as a Coronavirus treatment centre.

The hospital, which is based in the city of Abidjan was opened in 2016 and named after former Ivory Coast footballer Laurent Pokou, who passed away in the same year the hospital opened.

Vincent Toh Bi Irie, the head of Abidjan's regional council, has praised Drogba for his 'patriotic gesture,' saying the hospital will help them fight the disease.

'We thank Drogba for this gift considered as an act of patriotism,' Toh Bi said. 

In Ivory Coast, there are over 500 Coronavirus cases with five deaths recorded so far, but the country is preparing for a huge jump in cases following claims that African countries are in grave danger of becoming the most affected in the world.

Didier Drogba who retired from football in 2018,  played for Le Mans and Guingamp before joining Marseille, where he later left for Chelsea in 2004 for a then club-record fee of £24m.

He scored 164 goals in 381 appearances over two spells with Chelsea, helping them win the Premier League four times and the Champions League in 2012, as well as four FA Cup triumphs and three League Cup victories.

Drogba also played for Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua as well as Galatasaray in Turkey,  Major League Soccer franchise Montreal Impact and Phoenix Rising in the US.
