Sénégal : Karim Wade à un poste clé du parti dirigé par son père

Le fils de l’ancien président sénégalais Abdoulaye Wade, Karim, qui vit en exil au Qatar, va occuper un poste clé du Parti démocratique sénégalais (PDS, opposition) dirigé par son père, selon un communiqué du parti.

Âgé de 58 ans, Karim Wade, a été désigné secrétaire général adjoint du PDS “chargé de l’organisation, de la modernisation et de l‘élaboration des stratégies politiques” du parti, indique ce communiqué publié vendredi soir et signé de son secrétaire général national, Abdoulaye Wade.

En procédant à une refonte de la direction du PDS, l’ex-président sénégalais âgé de 93 ans, a promu son fils et ses proches, en écartant selon certains membres, des personnalités considérées comme dissidentes.

C’est en particulier le cas du numéro deux du PDS, Oumar Sarr, qui après la réélection du chef de l’Etat Macky Sall en février, avait accepté de participer à un “dialogue national” rejeté par Abdoulaye Wade.

Karim Wade a toujours été proche de son père dont il a été conseiller et ministre.

Condamné en 2015 à six ans de prison ferme et à plus de 210 millions d’euros d’amende pour “enrichissement illicite” du temps où son père était président, Karim Wade a passé trois ans de prison dont deux en préventive. Il a bénéficié d’une grâce présidentielle et a été libéré le 24 juin 2016. Il vit depuis en exil au Qatar.

Désigné candidat du PDS à la dernière présidentielle de février, sa candidature avait été rejetée par le Conseil constitutionnel en raison de sa condamnation.

Son père avait alors appelé à boycotter une élection qu’il considérait comme “verrouillée” et qui a été remportée dès le premier tour par le président sortant Macky Sall, élu une première fois face à Abdoulaye Wade en 2012 après une campagne agitée et violente.
