Emmanuel Macron a critiqué le dirigeant brésilien Jair Bolsonaro, un homme d'une extrême brutalité, pour avoir insulté sa femme et avoir semblé critiquer ses apparences alors que leur querelle sur les incendies dans l'Amazonie est devenue plus personnelle aujourd'hui.

Bolsonaro a approuvé hier un post sexiste sur la première dame française de France, Brigitte Macron, âgée de 66 ans, le dernier chapitre d'une escalade de la guerre des mots entre lui et son homologue français.

Le président français Macron, âgé de 41 ans, avait appelé les pays du G7 à des discussions urgentes sur les incendies détruisant des morceaux de la forêt amazonienne, exerçant ainsi une pression sur Bolsonaro, qui l'accusait à son tour de "mentalité colonialiste".

Hier, un partisan de Bolsonaro a publié un message qui se moquait de l’apparition de Mme Macron et la comparait défavorablement à la première dame du Brésil, âgée de 37 ans, Michelle Bolsonaro.

Le slogan était le suivant: "Vous comprenez maintenant pourquoi Macron persécute Bolsonaro?"

Le dirigeant brésilien de droite, âgé de 64 ans, a répondu: "N'humiliez pas le gars, ah ah," en faisant référence à M. Macron.

Interrogé sur le poste au sommet du G7 à Biarritz, en France, M. Macron a déclaré aujourd'hui que "les femmes brésiliennes ont probablement honte de leur président".

La dispute intervient alors que Macron a annoncé que les pays du G7 débloqueraient 20 millions d'euros (22 millions de dollars) pour lutter contre les incendies qui font rage en Amazonie.

Quand on lui a demandé si la réponse sur les médias sociaux venait de Bolsonaro lui-même, un porte-parole du palais présidentiel brésilien a refusé de commenter.

Mais le Premier ministre français a rétorqué aujourd'hui: "Il a dit des propos très irrespectueux à propos de ma femme. J'ai beaucoup de respect pour le peuple brésilien et je ne peux qu'espérer qu'il aura bientôt un président à la hauteur".

Il a dit que les commentaires de Bolsonaro étaient «extraordinairement impolis», ajoutant: «Que puis-je dire? C'est triste. C'est triste pour lui d'abord et pour les Brésiliens.

M. Macron a ajouté lors de la conférence de presse en France: "Je pense que les femmes brésiliennes auront probablement honte de lire cela de leur président.

«Je pense que les Brésiliens, qui forment un grand peuple, auront probablement honte de voir ce comportement.

"Et comme je ressens de l'amitié et du respect envers le peuple brésilien, j'espère qu'il aura bientôt un président qui se comportera correctement."

Le président Bolsonaro a ensuite critiqué le dirigeant français avec un fil de tweets et a déclaré que les "attaques injustes et injustifiées de Macron sur l'Amazone" étaient "déraisonnables".

Il a également déclaré: "Les autres chefs d'Etat sympathisants du Brésil, après tout respect de la souveraineté de n'importe quel pays, est le moins que l'on puisse attendre d'un monde civilisé."

Les incendies dans la plus grande forêt tropicale du monde, imputables à une déforestation généralisée par les experts, ont provoqué un tollé mondial.

Les nations européennes ont mené la charge contre Bolsonaro, qui n’a pas caché son scepticisme face au changement climatique.

Le Brésil était furieux après que Macron, à l’approche du sommet du G7, ait tweeté une photo de la forêt amazonienne en feu en écrivant: «Notre maison est en train de brûler. Littéralement.'

Macron a déclaré que Bolsonaro avait menti sur son engagement dans la lutte contre le changement climatique.

Macron a annoncé aujourd'hui que les pays du G7 débloqueraient 20 millions d'euros pour soutenir leurs efforts de lutte contre les incendies.

M. Macron a déclaré que les fonds seraient disponibles "immédiatement" pour être utilisés principalement pour payer davantage d'avions de lutte contre l'incendie.

Macron avait déjà déclaré que la situation dans la région amazonienne était une "crise internationale" et en avait fait l'une des priorités du sommet ce week-end.

Il a également menacé de bloquer un nouvel accord commercial entre l'UE et l'Amérique latine à moins que Bolsonaro prenne des mesures sérieuses pour protéger la forêt de l'exploitation forestière et minière.

"Nous devons répondre à l'appel de la forêt qui brûle aujourd'hui en Amazonie", a déclaré lundi Macron.

Depuis le début de l'année, près de 80 000 incendies de forêt ont été détectés au Brésil, dont un peu plus de la moitié dans l'immense bassin amazonien.

"La France offrira également un soutien concret aux forces militaires de la région dans les prochaines heures", a déclaré le dirigeant français.

Des politiciens brésiliens - dont le fils de Bolsonaro, Eduardo - ont critiqué M. Macron. Le ministre de l'Éducation, Abraham Weintraub, l'a qualifié de "idiot opportuniste" et de "président sans caractère" dans une rafale de tweets dimanche.

Eduardo Bolsonaro, qui est présumé être le prochain ambassadeur à Washington, a retransmis vendredi une vidéo montrant de violentes manifestations contre un gilet jaune en France intitulée "Macron est un idiot", l'appelant "un message" adressé au dirigeant français.

Emmanuel Macron has blasted 'extraordinarily rude' Brazil leader Jair Bolsonaro for insulting his wife and appearing to criticise her looks as their feud over the Amazon fires got personal today.

Bolsonaro endorsed a sexist Facebook post about France's 66-year-old first lady Brigitte Macron yesterday, the latest chapter in an escalating war of words between him and his French counterpart.

French President Macron, 41, had called for emergency talks by G7 nations on the fires destroying chunks of the Amazon rainforest, piling pressure on Bolsonaro, who in turn accused him of having a 'colonialist mentality'.

A Bolsonaro supporter yesterday posted a meme mocking the appearance of Mrs Macron and compared her unfavourably with Brazil's 37-year-old first lady Michelle Bolsonaro.

It had the tagline: 'Now you understand why Macron is persecuting Bolsonaro?'

The right wing Brazilian leader, 64, replied: 'Do not humiliate the guy, ha ha,' referring to Mr Macron.

When asked about the post at the G7 summit in Biarritz, France, today, Macron said that 'Brazilian women are probably feeling ashamed of their president.'

The dispute comes as Macron announced the G7 counties would release 20 million euros ($22m) to help fight the raging fires in the Amazon.

Asked whether the response on social media came from Bolsonaro himself, a spokesman for Brazil's presidential palace refused to comment.

But the French Prime Minister hit back today, saying: 'He said very disrespectful things about my wife, I have great respect for the Brazilian people and can only hope they soon have a president who is up to the job.'

He said Bolsonaro's comments were 'extraordinarily rude', adding: 'What can I say? It's sad. It's sad for him firstly, and for Brazilians.'

Mr Macron added at the press conference in France: 'I think Brazilian women will probably be ashamed to read that from their president.

'I think that Brazilians, who are a great people, will probably be ashamed to see this behaviour.

'And as I feel friendship and respect towards the Brazilian people, I hope that they will very soon have a president who behaves in the right way.'

President Bolsonaro later hit back at the French leader with a thread of tweets and said Macron's 'improper and wanton attacks on the Amazon' were 'unreasonable.'

He also said: 'Other heads of state sympathized with Brazil, after all respect for the sovereignty of any country is the least that can be expected in a civilized world.'

The fires across the world's largest rainforest, which experts have blamed on rampant deforestation, have triggered a global outcry.

European nations have lead the charge against Bolsonaro, who has made no secret of his skepticism about climate change.

Brazil was angered after Macron, in the run up to the G7 summit, tweeted a photo of the burning Amazon forest, writing: 'Our house is burning. Literally.'

Macron said he had been lied to by Bolsonaro over his commitments to fighting climate change.

Today Macron said the G7 countries would release 20 million euros to help support efforts to tackle the fires.

Mr Macron said the funds would be available 'immediately' to be used mainly for paying for more fire-fighting planes.

Macron had already declared the situation in the Amazon region an 'international crisis' and made it one of the summit's priorities this past weekend.

He also threatened to block a new trade deal between the EU and Latin America unless Bolsonaro takes serious steps to protect the forest from logging and mining.

'We must respond to the call of the forest which is burning today in the Amazon,' Macron said Monday.

Nearly 80,000 forest fires have been detected in Brazil since the beginning of the year, a little over half in the massive Amazon basin.

'France will also offer concrete support with military in the region within the next few hours,' the French leader said.

The row has seen Brazilian politicians - including Bolsonaro's son Eduardo - take potshots at Mr Macron, with education minister Abraham Weintraub calling him 'an opportunist idiot' and 'a president without character' in a flurry of tweets Sunday.
