Les Nations Unies publient un nouveau timbre pour rendre hommage à feu Kofi Annan

En hommage à l'ancien Secrétaire général des Nations Unies, Kofi Annan, l'Administration postale des Nations Unies du Département de l'appui aux opérations a émis un timbre définitif de 1,30 USD le 31 mai.

Le timbre comporte un portrait de feu Kofi Annan, illustré par le célèbre artiste et graveur Martin Mörck (Norvège).

La citation sur le timbre se lit comme suit: «Vivre, c'est choisir. Mais pour bien choisir, vous devez savoir qui vous êtes et ce que vous représentez, où vous voulez aller et pourquoi vous voulez y aller. "

La feuille de timbres et la couverture du premier jour ont été conçues par Rorie Katz de l'UNPA. Kofi A. Annan, du Ghana, septième Secrétaire général des Nations Unies, a exercé ses fonctions de 1997 à 2006. Il a été le premier à sortir des rangs du personnel des Nations Unies.

En tant que Secrétaire général, M. Annan a donné la priorité à la revitalisation de l’ONU par le biais d’un vaste programme de réformes; renforcer les activités traditionnelles de l’Organisation dans les domaines du développement et du maintien de la paix et de la sécurité internationales; défendre les droits de l'homme, la primauté du droit et les valeurs universelles d'égalité, de tolérance et de dignité humaine; rétablir la confiance du public dans l'Organisation en recherchant de nouveaux partenaires et, selon ses termes, en "rapprochant les Nations Unies de la population".

En 2001, Annan et les Nations Unies ont reçu conjointement le prix Nobel de la paix. Il a également reçu de nombreux diplômes honorifiques et de nombreux autres prix, médailles et honneurs nationaux et internationaux.

À sa sortie des Nations Unies, M. Annan a créé la Fondation Kofi Annan en 2007, une organisation indépendante à but non lucratif qui œuvre pour promouvoir une meilleure gouvernance mondiale et renforcer les capacités des populations et des pays afin de réaliser un monde plus juste et plus pacifique.

Kofi Annan est décédé le 18 août 2018 à Berne, en Suisse, à l'âge de 80 ans.

To honour the former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan, the United Nations Postal Administration of the Department of Operational Support issued a definitive stamp of US$1.30 on May 31.  

The stamp features a portrait of the late Kofi Annan which was illustrated by the famous artist and engraver Martin Mörck (Norway).

The quote on the stamp reads “To live is to choose.  But to choose well, you must know who you are and what you stand for, where you want to go and why you want to get there.” 
The stamp sheet and first day cover were designed by Rorie Katz of UNPA. Kofi A. Annan of Ghana, the seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations, served from 1997 to 2006. He was the first to emerge from the ranks of United Nations staff.  

As Secretary-General, Annan gave priority to revitalizing the UN through a comprehensive programme of reform; strengthening the Organization’s traditional work in the areas of development and the maintenance of international peace and security; advocating human rights, the rule of law and the universal values of equality, tolerance and human dignity; restoring public confidence in the Organization by reaching out to new partners and, in his words, by “bringing the United Nations closer to the people”.

In 2001, Annan and the United Nations were jointly awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace. He also received numerous honorary degrees and many other national and international prizes, medals and honours.  

Upon leaving the United Nations, Mr. Annan established the Kofi Annan Foundation in 2007, an independent, not-for-profit organization that works to promote better global governance and strengthen the capacities of people and countries to achieve a fairer, more peaceful world.  

Kofi Annan died on 18 August 2018 in Bern, Switzerland, at the age of 80.
