RDC : l'opposant Moïse Katumbi de retour à Lubumbashi, après 3 ans d'exil

Moïse Katumbi, un des leaders de l’opposition en République démocratique du Congo a foulé ce lundi le territoire de son pays, après trois années d’exil. Le patron de la formation “Ensemble pour le changement” a été accueilli à l’aéroport de Lubumbashi par une foule en liesse.

Dès les premières heures de ce lundi 20 mai, des centaines de personnes avaient commencé à converger vers l’aéroport de la Luano, à Lubumbashi, la capitale du Haut Katanga. Le rendez-vous qui les y a menés est inédit : rencontrer leur chef de file, qui avait quitté le pays il y a trois ans en pleine tourmente judiciaire sous la pression de l’ancien régime du président Joseph Kabila.

Le jet privé de l’ex-gouverneur du Katanga minier et riche homme d’affaires s’est posé sur la piste de l’aéroport de Lubumbashi (sud-est) à 10h45 (08h45 GMT), a constaté une équipe de l’AFP. Des milliers de personnes l’attendaient sur le chemin entre l’aéroport et le centre-ville.

M. Katumbi, qui vivait en Belgique, avait tenté en vain de revenir en août dernier pour présenter sa candidature à l‘élection présidentielle, officiellement remportée par un autre opposant, Félix Tshisekedi, investi le 24 janvier.

Son retour est perçu comme un signe de détente politique après l’annulation de sa condamnation à trois ans de prison dans une affaire de spoliation immobilière qu’il a toujours contestée.

Allié puis adversaire de l’ex-président Kabila qui l’a qualifié de “Judas”, M. Katumbi a déclaré qu’il se situait toujours dans l’opposition au nouveau président Tshisekedi.

Il devra préciser le rôle qu’il entend jouer au sein de cette opposition où le candidat qu’il a soutenu, Martin Fayulu, revendique la victoire à l‘élection présidentielle du 30 décembre 2018.

“Quelle que soit la longueur de la nuit, le jour finit toujours par se lever. Bon retour au pays à @MoïseKatumbi”, a twitté Martin Fayulu, qui ne figurait pas parmi les nombreux élus présents à Lubumbashi pour le retour de “Moïse”.

Katumbi, who was living in Belgium, had tried in vain to return last August to run for president, which was officially won by another opponent, Felix Tshisekedi, on 24 January.

His return is perceived as a sign of political relaxation after the cancellation of his sentence to three years in prison in a case of real estate spoliation that he has always challenged.

He will have to specify the role he intends to play in this opposition where the candidate he supported, Martin Fayulu, claims victory in the presidential election of 30 December 2018.
