L’avion transportant la dépouille d’Etienne Tshisekedi, figure de l’histoire du Congo décédé à Bruxelles le 1er février 2017, s’est posé sur l’aéroport de Kinshasa jeudi à 19h22 (18h22 GMT), ont rapporté un photographe et un caméraman de l’AFP présents sur le tarmac.

Son fils et actuel président de la République démocratique du Congo, Félix Tshisekedi, menait la délégation présente à l’aéroport, avant une journée d’hommage vendredi et l’inhumation prévue samedi.

Le président Tshisekedi était cependant en retrait au moment où sa mère, Marthe, est descendue de la passerelle de l’avion.

Le cercueil blanc recouvert d’un drapeau congolais a été tiré sur la piste de l’aéroport par une remorque au son d’une fanfare jusqu‘à un corbillard.

Le président Tshisekedi se tenait en retrait, vêtu d’une chemise blanche à l’effigie de son père.

Quelques milliers de personnes attendaient en dehors de l’aéroport alors que la nuit était déjà tombée sur Kinshasa.

Le corps doit être conduit à la morgue, avant d‘être exposé vendredi au stade des Martyrs puis d‘être inhumé samedi à la Nsele.

L’ex-opposant et ex-Premier ministre est décédé à l‘âge de 84 ans le 1er février 2017 à Bruxelles où il venait se faire soigner.

Sa dépouille reposait depuis dans un funérarium de la capitale belge, faute d’accord entre sa famille et l’ancien régime du président Joseph Kabila pour son rapatriement et l’organisation des obsèques.

Né en 1932, Etienne Tshisekedi a été un proche du dictateur Mobutu Sese Seko à l’indépendance de l’ex-colonie belge en 1960.

Tshisekedi père est passé dans l’opposition et a fondé dans la clandestinité l’Union pour la démocratie et le progrès social (UDPS) en 1982.

Le “Sphynx” de Limete, du nom de sa commune de résidence à Kinshasa, a été brièvement Premier ministre dans les années 90, lors de l’ouverture du géant d’Afrique au multipartisme.

Il est repassé dans l’opposition au régime des Kabila à partir de 1997.

The plane carrying the remains of Etienne Tshisekedi, figure of the history of the Congo who died in Brussels on February 1, 2017, landed on the Kinshasa airport Thursday at 19:22 (18:22 GMT), reported a photographer and a cameraman of AFP present on the tarmac.

His son and current president of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Félix Tshisekedi, led the delegation at the airport, before a tribute day on Friday and the burial on Saturday.

President Tshisekedi, however, was in withdrawal when his mother, Martha, got off the bridge of the plane.

The white coffin covered with a Congolese flag was pulled on the airport runway by a trailer to the sound of a fanfare to a hearse.

President Tshisekedi was standing back, wearing a white shirt with the image of his father.

A few thousand people were waiting outside the airport while the night had already fallen on Kinshasa.

The body must be taken to the morgue, before being exposed on Friday at the Martyrs Stadium and then buried on Saturday at the Nsele.

The former opponent and former Prime Minister died at the age of 84 on 1 February 2017 in Brussels where he was coming for treatment.

His remains had been resting in a funeral parlor in the Belgian capital, for lack of agreement between his family and the former regime of President Joseph Kabila for his repatriation and the organization of the funeral.

Born in 1932, Etienne Tshisekedi was a close friend of the dictator Mobutu Sese Seko to the independence of the former Belgian colony in 1960.

Tshisekedi's father went into opposition and founded in hiding the Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS) in 1982.

The "Sphynx" of Limete, named after his commune of residence in Kinshasa, was briefly Prime Minister in the 90s, at the opening of the giant of Africa multiparty.

He is back in opposition to the Kabila regime from 1997.
