Kemi Seba: « la longévité au pouvoir n’est pas le problème central en Afrique »

Invité sur l’émission « Surface de Vérité » à l’occasion de l’une de ses conférences sur le néocolonialisme français au Burkina-Faso, l’activiste Kemi Seba s’est prononcé sur la notion de la démocratie en Afrique. Pour le leader de l’ONG Urgences Panafricanistes, la démocratie est une marque imposée par les occidentaux aux pays du tiers-monde.

Démocratie ou valeur occidentale imposée en Afrique ? Sur les questions liées à la démocratie, les analyses s’entremêlent et souvent en défaveurs de l’Afrique a qui on attribue la triste réputation d’être une mauvaise élève à l’école de la démocratie. Mais de quelle démocratie s’agit-il ? 

Celle inventée par l’occident pour contrôler la sphère politique du tiers monde ou celle définie par l’ancien président américain Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865) qui disait : «La démocratie est le gouvernement du peuple par le peuple et pour le peuple » ?

 De toutes les façons, la marche engagée par l’Afrique vers la démocratie par la voie institutionnelle ne sera véritablement effective qu’avec l’essor d’une véritable culture démocratique des hommes tel partagé par l’activiste béninois Kemi Seba.

Face au journaliste sur l’émission « Surface de Vérité », Kemi Seba est allé sans détour.  Selon l’activiste, la démocratie n’est qu’un concept inventé pour contrôler l’Afrique : « Le problème n’est pas le contenu de la démocratie(…), la démocratie est une marque qui appartient aux occidentaux qui vous disent comment sa fonctionne(…) » et à chaque fois que vous prenez votre dimension patriotique pour le bien être de votre peuple, dérangeant parfois les intérêts occidentaux vous êtes  exclu de l’international socialiste, parce que vous ne répondez plus aux critères de la démocratie telle qu’ils l’aperçoivent.

« Quand vous croyez au système et que le système ne croit plus en vous, vous êtes terminés », ajoute l’activiste tout en donnant l’exemple de Laurent Gbagbo.
Pour Kemi Seba, la question de la longévité au pouvoir n’est pas le problème central en Afrique, mais plutôt ce que fait le dirigeant quand il est au pouvoir : « Des alternances sont des hypocrisies. Mais, je ne suis pas systématiquement contre l’alternance.  

Quand un régime est dirigé par quelqu’un qui est mauvais il faut le changer », explique Kemi Seba qui ajoute : « Thomas Sankara aurait dirigé 20 ans ou 30 ans le Burkina-Faso ne m’aurait pas gêné(..) Khadafi a dirigé pendant très longtemps la Libye ça ne m’a pas gêné(…) tant que vous vous battez pour votre pays pour que votre pays puisse accéder à certains nombres de choses sa ne me gène pas »

Le leader de l’ONG Urgences Panafricanistes a pour finir, rappeler que nous avons le devoir d’instaurer le schéma pluri-muliticivilisationnel qui permet à chaque peuple africain de pouvoir s’organiser en fonction de ses réalités. Une manière de dire que « l’Afrique doit inventer sa propre démocratie ».

Invited on the show "Surface of Truth" on the occasion of one of his lectures on French neocolonialism in Burkina Faso, activist Kemi Seba spoke on the notion of democracy in Africa. For the leader of the NGO Panafrican Urgencies, democracy is a mark imposed by Westerners in third world countries.

Democracy or Western value imposed in Africa? On issues related to democracy, the analyzes intertwine and often at the expense of Africa which is attributed the sad reputation of being a bad student in the school of democracy. But what democracy is it?

The one invented by the West to control the political sphere of the Third World or that defined by the former American President Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865) who said: "Democracy is the government of the people by the people and for the people"?

 In any case, Africa's march towards democracy through the institutional path will only be truly effective with the development of a genuine democratic culture of men, as shared by the Beninese activist Kemi Seba.

Faced with the reporter on the show "Surface of Truth", Kemi Seba went straight to the point. According to the activist, democracy is only a concept invented to control Africa: "The problem is not the content of democracy (...), democracy is a brand that belongs to Westerners who tell you how it works (...) "and every time you take your patriotic dimension for the good of your people, sometimes disturbing Western interests you are excluded from the socialist international, because you no longer meet the criteria of democracy such as that they see it.

"When you believe in the system and the system no longer believes in you, you are finished," adds the activist while giving the example of Laurent Gbagbo.
For Kemi Seba, the issue of longevity in power is not the central problem in Africa, but rather what the leader does when he is in power: "Alternation is hypocrisy. But, I'm not systematically against alternation.

When a regime is run by someone who is bad, you have to change it, "says Kemi Seba, who adds:" Thomas Sankara would have directed 20 years or 30 years Burkina Faso would not have bothered me (..) Khadafi has I have been in Libya for a very long time and it did not bother me (...) as long as you fight for your country so that your country can access some things it does not bother me "

The leader of the NGO Panafrican Urgencies finally reminded us that we have the duty to establish the multi-multi-civilization framework that allows each African people to organize themselves according to their realities. A way of saying that "Africa must invent its own democracy".
