Nigéria: « Je suis profondément déçu », le président Buhari réagit au report des élections

Le Président Muhammadu Buhari a exprimé sa profonde déception face au report des élections présidentielle et législatives par la Commission électorale nationale indépendante.

Le président a déploré que, malgré l’appui nécessaire à l’arbitre électoral, la compétition ait été reportée à quelques heures seulement de l’échéance et que les Nigérians se sont donnés la peine de se déplacer en vain pour voter. 

« Je suis profondément déçu que, malgré le long préavis donné et nos préparations aux niveaux local et international, la Commission électorale nationale indépendante ait reporté les élections présidentielle et législatives quelques heures après son début », a déclaré Buhari, dans une déclaration qu’il a signée samedi matin à Daura, Etat de Katsina. 

Cependant, il a demandé à l’INEC de veiller à la sécurité du matériel électoral déjà distribué et a exhorté les Nigérians à rester respectueux de la loi. Buhari a également déclaré qu’il avait décidé de quitter Daura pour s’installer à Abuja, afin de s’assurer du succès de la réunion que l’INEC a convoquée avec les parties prenantes.

«Tout en réaffirmant mon ferme attachement à l’indépendance, à la neutralité de l’arbitre électoral et au caractère sacré du processus électoral et du scrutin, j’exhorte tous les acteurs politiques et les Nigérians à continuer de se mobiliser autour de l’INEC en ce moment national difficile de notre parcours démocratique. 

J’appelle donc tous les Nigérians à s’abstenir de tout désordre civil et à rester pacifiques, patriotes et unis afin de s’assurer qu’aucune force ni aucun complot ne compromettent notre développement démocratique », a exhorté Buhari.

President Muhammadu Buhari expressed his deep disappointment at the postponement of the presidential and legislative elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The president lamented that, despite the necessary support for the election referee, the competition was postponed only a few hours before the deadline and that the Nigerians took the trouble to move in vain to vote.

"I am deeply disappointed that, despite the long notice given and our preparations at the local and international levels, the Independent National Electoral Commission postponed the presidential and legislative elections a few hours after it began," said Buhari, in a statement that he signed Saturday morning in Daura, Katsina State.

However, he asked INEC to ensure the security of the electoral materials already distributed and urged Nigerians to remain law-abiding. Buhari also said he had decided to leave Daura to settle in Abuja, to ensure the success of the meeting that INEC convened with stakeholders.

"While reaffirming my strong commitment to independence, the neutrality of the election arbitrator and the sanctity of the electoral process and the ballot, I urge all political actors and Nigerians to continue to mobilize around the INEC at this difficult national moment of our democratic course.

I therefore call on all Nigerians to abstain from civil disorder and to remain peaceful, patriotic and united in order to ensure that no force or plot jeopardizes our democratic development, "Buhari urged.
