Ewuare II, l'oba du Bénin, a demandé aujourd'hui au prince de Galles, le prince Charles, de donner sa voix à l'appel lancé pour que l'empire britannique restitue tous les anciens artefacts du Bénin récupérés par les autorités britanniques en 1897.

S'exprimant lors de la parade que le roi britannique en visite a eu avec les pères royaux ce soir, le monarque du Bénin a déclaré au prince Charles que le rapatriement des artefacts lui permettrait d'établir le musée Oba Palace pour la promotion du tourisme dans son royaume.

«Autant dire que les Nigérians en général et les Béninois en particulier seront ravis que votre Altesse Royale jette son poids royal derrière nos efforts pour que certains de nos artefacts antiques recueillis en 1897 de la Cour royale du Bénin soient rendus au Bénin d'établir le musée du palais d'Oba pour la promotion du tourisme à Benin City, dans l'État d'Edo. "

 Les autres dirigeants traditionnels ayant assisté à la réunion étaient les Ooni d’Ife, Enitan Ogunwusi; Le sultan de Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar; Obi d'Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe; Emir de Kano, Lamido Sanusi et autres.

The Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, today asked the Prince of Wales, Prince Charles, to lend his voice to the call for the British empire to return all the ancient Benin artifacts that were taken by the British authorities in 1897.

Speaking at the parley the visiting British royal had with royal fathers this evening, the Benin monarch told Prince Charles that the repatriation of the artifacts would enable him establish Oba Palace Museum for the promotion of tourism in his kingdom.

“Suffice to say that Nigerians in general and Benin people in particular will be most delighted to have your royal highness throw his royal weight behind our efforts to have some of our ancient artifacts that were taken in 1897 from the Royal Court of Benin returned to Benin to establish Oba Palace Museum for the promotion of tourism in Benin City, Edo State.” he said
