Elections en RDC : l'opposition autorisée à célébrer le retour de son candidat Fayulu mercredi

L’opposition congolaise a été autorisée à manifester mercredi à Kinshasa pour accueillir un de ses candidats à la présidence de la République, Martin Fayulu, a-t-on appris mardi de source officielle.

Le retour de M. Fayulu est prévu mercredi à la veille de l’ouverture jeudi de la campagne électorale pour la présidentielle du 23 décembre.

Le gouverneur de la ville de Kinshasa a invité les partisans de M. Fayulu “à entrer en contact” avec le chef de la police de Kinshasa “pour des dispositions pratiques”.

M. Fayulu doit revenir d’Europe par un vol régulier à la mi-journée par l’aéroport de Ndjili. Il avait été désigné “candidat commun” de l’opposition à Genève au terme d’une réunion de sept opposants le 11 novembre.

Mais le lendemain, deux signataires de l’accord de Genève, Félix Tshisekedi et Vital Kamerhe, sont revenus sur leur engagement. Vingt et une candidatures ont été retenues par la commission électorale pour ce scrutin majeur.

L’Eglise catholique congolaise a appelé lundi les autorités à “garantir et faire valoir la liberté de manifester à tous les candidats” en RDC où les manifestations de l’opposition sont majoritairement interdites ou dispersées par les forces de l’ordre.

The Congolese opposition was allowed to demonstrate Wednesday in Kinshasa to host one of its candidates for the presidency, Martin Fayulu, was learned Tuesday from official sources.

The return of Mr. Fayulu is expected Wednesday on the eve of the opening Thursday of the election campaign for the presidential election of December 23.

The governor of the city of Kinshasa invited Fayulu's supporters to "get in touch" with the police chief of Kinshasa "for practical arrangements".

Fayulu is due to return from Europe on a regular mid-day flight from Ndjili airport. He had been designated "common candidate" of the opposition in Geneva after a meeting of seven opponents on November 11.

But the next day, two signatories of the Geneva agreement, Felix Tshisekedi and Vital Kamerhe, have returned to their commitment. Twenty-one candidates were selected by the electoral commission for this major election.

The Congolese Catholic Church on Monday called on the authorities to "guarantee and assert the freedom to demonstrate to all candidates" in the DRC where opposition demonstrations are mostly banned or dispersed by the police.
